The Churning Mists is a zone in Dravania.

A huge heaven with countless floating isles and the ancestral home of moogles and dragons, this area extends from the summit of Sohm Al. The ruins of exquisite structures and artwork from a bygone era when humans and dragons coexisted together may be seen everywhere.

Geography[ | ]

Sohm Al Summit[ | ]

One may argue that the top of the mountain is like a floating island due to the massive crystal at its center, making it a sacred summit.

  • Moghome: The long-forgotten town of Moghome is located in the center of the dragons' domain, oddly perched atop Sohm Al. The huge wyrm Hraesvelgr is reported to have made a deal with the moogles so that they may coexist peacefully.

Eil Tohm[ | ]

Nidhogg destroyed the tranquil little settlement of Eil Tohm when Ratatoskr was killed. According to the dragons, the devastation happened so quickly that the locals probably had no idea who was attacking them or why.

  • The House of Letters: The millennium-old remnants of a tower, purportedly constructed by humans and dragons in the pre-war era. The inscriptions etched in its walls may still be seen even now as it crumbles, giving the moogles the idea for its name.
  • Monsterie: Moogles have repeatedly claimed that this building was known as the Monsterie. Nevertheless, careful inspection of parts of the remaining architecture reveals that it resembles an Ishgardian cloister.

Landlord Colony[ | ]

The several homes in this area exhibit significant damage, most likely caused by an enraged Nidhogg when humanity was betrayed. The ruins were originally inhabited by the "lords of the lower lands," according to the moogles, but the great wyrm's wrath destroyed their records.

  • Asah: A massive bridge that spans two floating isles. It was formerly a rest stop for tired pilgrims heading to Zenith. At Hraesvelgr's and his brood's request, moogles are currently restoring it.

Four Arms[ | ]

The domain of Hraesvelgr, the giant wyrm. It is reported that Dravanian claws have not ravaged the structures to honor the memory of Shiva by keeping the location as immaculate as it was during her lifetime. Sohr Kai, the glittering palace lair of Hraesvelgr's fallen brood-sister Ratatoskr, is the only other sanctuary where the architecture has not been damaged by dragons.

  • Zenith: A magnificent fortess within Hraesvelgr's dominion, kept guard by the moogles who live in the Churning Mists at the great wyrm's command. Even with the wear and tear of a millennium, it remains resolute and powerful, captivating the admiration of everyone who beholds it.

Ohl Tahn[ | ]

Nidhogg's sinister dominion. The brood of the dread wyrm crackles with aetheric energies intensified by the dragons' animosity in this northern enclave.

  • The Rookery: Formerly a busy skyport where travelers arrived and left on the backs of skilled wyverns, according to the moogles. The buildings still stand these days, but the only dragons visible are Nidhogg's ferocious henchmen.
  • Gron Rhei: Translates to "trees praying" in the dragon tongue, and may be a reference to the lovely forest that formerly encircled the island. To the dismay of the moogles, Nidhogg's offspring left this burned area in the hands of their lower cousins, who uphold their supremacy by murdering anybody who comes near.
  • Tharl Oom Khash: Translates as "crystal from regret" in the dragon tongue, perhaps alluding to the rich purple clusters that conceal the structure's ruins. The huge wyrm Ratatoskr met apparently met her demise here after she was tricked by men into a trap.
  • Sothton Walls: The ruins of a bulwark previously standing between humans and dragons south of Tharl Oom Khash. It provided protection against fierce animals that would move into the Churning Mists as the seasons changed. The dragons saw this as more of a leisure activity than a serious responsibility, which the knights saw as such.
  • Weston Waters: One of the lesser springs in the Churning Mists and used to be a haven for the locals in the distant past.
  • Easton Eyes: During times of peace, the eastern watchtower was also used by knights as a place to stay. From there, they would ride wyverns to patrol and guard the area.
  • The Aery: Nidhogg's lair is raged by vicious aetheric storms that keep out anyone who would dare disturb the giant wyrm as he sleeps, whether it be for years or decades.

Greensward[ | ]

Saint Shiva, the Elezen woman who worked to create a bridge between humans and dragons, is honored here. Despite her short life, her people honored her with a magnificent memorial on the island so that the peace she stood for would always be remembered.

  • Mother of the Sheave: Standing tall over the Churning Mists, it is a massive statue depicting Saint Shiva. Given that the statue was built about a century after she passed away, the giant wyrm and his offspring claim the effigy has no similarity to the actual Shiva. The saint's likeness has been substantially exalted.
  • The Lost Landlord: Standing atop an island in Greensward is this monstrosity. The moogles gave it its name with the assumption it is a statue of the "king of the land-dwellers," but there are no documents left that could explain who this person was or even if he actually walked the land.[1]
