  • Hi again!

Didn't take me long to start bothering you. I just realized how much has changed on wikia since I actively contributed last, one of those things being how portable infobox templates are set up. To be honest, when I was active on the Fallout wiki I probably spent as much time bothering Porter12, the guy that knew how to create proper templates as I did adding information to the wiki.

Anyway I was looking to make some changes to the Infobox templates, currently found here. There are a couple things I'm looking for help with.

In general I'd like to have it more like the Fallout wiki infoboxes, mainly because they don't take up as much space and still contain the regular information you'd expect from an infobox, as seen here. The font size is smaller, the "patch" parameter is included in the infobox header, location is condensed to a single parameter, and there's the quest progression at the bottom, aligned so it takes less vertical space.

Granted, there's less vital information in Fallout quests, we'd still need class/job requirements, level requirements, location and I'd like to include the lodestone link, and if possible a /Transcript link in the infobox footer containing the dialogue. It's not as simple as copying over the infobox template from the Fallout wiki, though. THere seems to be a lot more work to it than just that.

I know you're busy with the WoW Legion alpha, but if you're able to help with this I'd really appreciate it.

    • Let me take a look at it later this week and I'll see what I can do ;)

    • Did some fiddling finally and came away with a rough draft you can look at here. Hopefully it's a vastly superior improvement over the existing template - if you want to see how it looks on a page, just add /Draft to the
      {{Infobox quest
that begins the template on a quest page and hit preview (not publish).

About the only thing I didn't do was the patch within the header. In the name of space-saving, I also made the Rewards and Quest progression sections collapsed by default. One thing to note is that I ripped out the sublocation parameter entirely; I wasn't sure if you wanted it gone or if you wanted location and sublocation to be displayed on the same line.

Since I'm off for the next week, if you've got any questions or need further tweaks, try pinging JoePlay. He helped me out with the initial build when the site was first launched ;)

    • Thanks a lot, this looks wonderful!

The reason I split the sublocation and location into two parameters was because I'd like to continue to use the location parameter to automatically categorize pages based on location. Since I'm not very good at making templates I just added another parameter so I could continue to auto-categorize the location. I don't see a point in having separate categories for every sub-location, as that'd often end up being just one or two quests in a category. I'll ping JoePlay about it though!

Thanks again, I really appreciate you helping out with this, there's far too many articles that need to be made for me to stress out over a single template for hours :P

  • Hi!

I gave in to the constant pestering from a friend, and started playing FFXIV a couple of days ago. Immediately fell in love with it! I've been a contributor and sysop on various wikis over the last couple of years, including sysop on The Vault around the release of Fallout 3, Red Dead wiki, and a patroller on the Norwegian wikipedia.

Sad to see there's not much activity on this wiki, but I'd love to do some work on it. I'm slightly limited by my lack of user rights, however. The ability to move or delete pages is one I'd like to have, for example.

I suppose I should double check with you on this too, should page naming be consistent with the naming on the official Lodestone Playguide? Right now I'm thinking of the page for Miounne, who in the playguide is referred to as Mother Miounne, here.

Another thing I don't quite understand is why the page for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is found on FFXIV: ARR. Surely it should be the other way around with the latter being a redirect? In addition, Heavensward should surely be located at Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, which is the actual full title of the expansion.

    • I've been pulled away by about a half dozen other projects, tbh :P It would be nice to have someone over here on even a semi-regular basis, and since you look like you've got a ton of experience under your belt, I've no problem promoting you.

Feel free to tweak things how you see fit - the other admins have been quiet for some time, so if they return and you get any sort of push back (I highly doubt it) just refer them to me ;)

    • Ah, I noticed you seemed to be working on a whole lot of different wikis. Thanks for getting around to this quickly, should be able to continue reworking the quest pages now!

    • No problem :) Have fun with it - if you have any questions, feel free to toss t hem at me!

  • I'm interested in contributing here, seeing as this place doesn't have a lot of content to it. Could you duplicate the content in MediaWiki:Wikia.css into MediaWiki:Common.css? (That way, the white text in the templates such as Infobox item should show in Monobook).

  • Hi, I came across these pages that appear to be unneeded and should be deleted.

  • Raylan - can you set it up so that I can delete on this wiki too. I have been editing extensively on Aion Wiki and miss being able to either fix my mistakes or remove nonsense edits. I am planning to add more content to this wiki as I am currently playing FFXIV.

  • Hey there! I was trying to complete some abilities missing from lancer and pugilist page, but I noticed some categories such as Combo Action and Combo Potency are missing from the template. I think I can modify the template correctly, but I'd feel more comfortable if the author did it himself, since I've never done it before.

  • Hey Raylan13,

Just curious to see if you are going to enable Chat for the ARR Wikia. Would be nice to have a place to come chat about the game when you know...You can't get in...Or are at work...Looks amazing so far...Can't wait to see the community flourish here....Lodestone is way too much of a hassle to nav sometimes...This seems like the best option...Anyway thanks for your hard work on this! I look forward to coming here often!
