Limsa Lominsa

Limsa Lominsa is a city-state located in Eorzea. It can be found on the southern coast of the island of Vylbrand, under the shadow of ancient cliffs worn by the relentless onslaught of The Rhotano Sea. Said to be blessed by the goddess of navigation, Llymlaen, the city is spread out over countless tiny islands, each connected by tiny ivory bridges.

While fishing and shipbuilding are prominent, a majority of the city's wealth comes from the shipping industry, with over half of the city's population being employed in logistics. To maintain shipping routes, the thalassocracy employs a powerful navy known as the Knights of the Barracuda, who patrol the Eorzean seas, ensuring safe passage for all those who do business with the nation.

However, even in the waters nearby, pirate bands run rampant, reaving and pillaging, leading neighboring nations to suspect that the Knights of the Barracuda and local bandits are in some way working together to profit off of unwary traders.

History[ | ]

(See also: History of Limsa Lominsa)

Legend holds that Limsa Lominsa was founded shortly after the remnants of a giant armada fled from its homeland following a crushing defeat. Llymlaen is said to have taken pity on the plight of these brave sailors, and guided them to the shallows of a rocky bay where their ships were grounded upon the sharp rocks. With no home to return to, the sailors chose to settle in this newly-found land, and use the remnants of their vessels to begin construction of a city.

However, the sailors never forget their nautical backgrounds, and once a new fleet was in order, they would take to the waters again. It was only a matter of time before their influence spread and they ruled the five seas of Eorzea. Thus, the Limsan thalassocracy was born. Remnants of this legend live on even today in the nation's ruling party, whose members still address their leader as Admiral.

Areas[ | ]

Lower Decks[ | ]

The crew of the Galadion built Limsa's lower decks, which are among the city's oldest buildings, between the bay's towers. These platforms and bridges, which span the ocean, have been dubbed the "Navigator's Veil" as when seen from a distance, they glitter and sway in a manner reminiscent of the thinnest gossamer silks.[1]

Upper Decks[ | ]

Lominsans have spent many generations constructing upwards because they have very limited space to do so. As a result, the upper decks have developed to wrap around the Mizzenmast and extend to nearby towers along stone and wooden bridges.

Organizations[ | ]

The Yellowjackets[ | ]

The Yellowjackets were formerly a branch of the Knights of the Barracuda, but they now protect Lominsan territory and its borders. After the Calamity, they gained their independence, after which the Maelstrom then provided them with new responsibilities.

Formerly known as little more than infantry, the Yellowjackets get their moniker from a common nickname that was picked because of the vivid yellow overcoats that soldiers are required to wear while on duty. When the force separated with the Knights of the Barracuda, the name was formally adopted.

The Bloody Executioners[ | ]

The Bloody Executioners, the most powerful of Limsa's three major pirate organizations, are led by Hyllfyr, leader of the corsairs and ruler of the region's underworld. When Merlwyb prohibited piracy, the Executioners resisted, even organizing dissident crews to topple the Admiral. However, the pirates eventually signed Merlwyb's Galadion Accord due to the dangers the Garlean Empire and the Calamity posed. With a license from the Admiral to raid Garlean warships, the Executioners have maintained their dominance in recent years. Due to his advanced age, Hyllfyr has stepped down, and pirates can be seen squabbling in dark corners about who should take his place.

The Kraken's Arms[ | ]

The Misery, the Kraken's Arms' flagship, is one of numerous enormous galleys under their command that enable them to embark on lengthy trips with ease, making them the second of Limsa's three main pirate powers. They have made extensive travels to the east and have repeatedly raided the merchant and transport ships of the Garlean provinces. They arrived to sell their loot at the Seventh Sage, referring to these expeditions as part of the "spice trade," and there make a tidy profit. It may be said that the Krakens have adapted to their new job as privateers the best out of all the pirate crews.

The Sanguine Sirens[ | ]

The Sanguine Sirens, an almost completely female crew, were founded out of defiance thirty summers ago when four women set out to make it big in a world of pirates ruled by their male counterparts. The original Sirens spent their early years working on another crew's ship and earning a portion of the loot as sellswords during raids. Their numbers and wealth increased over time, and they eventually bought their own ship, the Lady Infernal. Their quick rise to become the last of Limsa's three major pirate powers is a testament to their prowess.

Guilds[ | ]

The choice of guild can prove the defining moment in an adventurer's budding career, and Limsa Lominsa offers a wide variety of unique options, many of which include businesses and organizations that constitute the backbone of the coastal city's government and economy.
