The Duskwight are a clan of Elezen.

History[ | ]

Duskwight

The Duskwight Elezen have lived in deep forest caves and caverns for millennia. They are the offspring of those who separated from their brethren when Gridania was founded and chose to stay in the stone-hewn chambers of Gelmorra or seek out new underground sanctuaries. The vast majority of Duskwight avoid the city-states, rejecting the constraints of society and governance; some even turn to brigandry as a means of survival. As a result, they are frequently derided by the people of Gridania, and those who have chosen to live there frequently experience unfair prejudice at the hands of their neighbors.[1]

Distribution The Black Shroud
Physical Attributes The Duskwight are similar to their Wildwood counterparts in height and frame, but what sets them apart is the color of their skin, which has darkened over generations of living in shadowy caverns. They also have an advanced sense of hearing for the same reason; this capacity to pinpoint a sound's origin with absolute precision while being unaffected by echoes or reverberations is sometimes compared to that of bats.
Nomenclature The names of Duskwights and Wildwoods are similar in origin in the ancient tongue, yet due to long-standing animosity between the two clans, any names that were formerly shared have long ago been claimed solely by one or the other. The given names of Elezen (Louisoix, Hildie) and Hyuran (Louis, Hilda) frequently resemble each other when closely compared. While some researchers claim that this is due to the two races sharing a similar ancestor, the proud Elezen have roundly rejected such notions.
Culture The Duskwight still follow the traditions of the ancient city-state of Gelmorra, including the use of mystical wards to ward off elemental wrath and architectural innovations created to stake out comfortable homes in dark, humid caves. The Duskwight-style pomanders, which are urns filled with fragrant herbs and inscribed with powerful mystic glyphs, are a work of art unmatched in the realm. Mun-Tuy beans, a staple in the underground depths where they grow in profusion without requiring sunshine, are famously used in Duskwight cuisine. Given the ties that have existed between the two clans throughout history, it is ironic that these meals have come to be regarded as a Gridanian delicacy.
